Did God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality?

Short answer: No, the Bible doesn’t say that, and in recent years, even many non-affirming Christians acknowledge that the Sodom story is unhelpful in this conversation, as it’s a story about an attempted sexual assault, not anything to do with loving relationships. (Gomorrah was Sodom’s sister city and also wicked, but it is never mentioned in connection with same-sex sexual behavior of any kind.)
